Gothic
Dream.

A medieval time capsule. Where swans rule the water, bells toll the hour, and the beer is stronger than wine.

Bruges (Brugge) is not a museum; it is a living fairy tale. It was the Manhattan of the Middle Ages until the river silted up in the 1500s, freezing the city in time.

From the soaring brick of the Belfry to the silent Beguinage, this guide explores the "Fairy Tale Grid"—a place best seen at twilight when the day-trippers have left.

13th Century

The Historic Grid. 🧱

Gothic architecture made of brick, not stone. It is warm, imposing, and incredibly detailed.

The Belfry

83 meters high. 366 steps. It leans slightly to the east. The view from the top explains why this was the richest city in Northern Europe.

Basilica of Holy Blood

Hidden in a corner of the Burg square. It claims to hold a cloth with the blood of Christ. The interior is a kaleidoscope of painted medieval color.

Silent Waters

Rozenhoedkaai

The Floating Grid. 🌊

The streets are water. The best way to see the city is from below street level, gliding past weeping willows and secret gardens.

The Swans:

Legend says Bruges is cursed to keep swans on its canals forever as punishment for executing a town administrator in 1488 (his family crest featured a swan).

Trappist Tradition

Sweet Sin. 🍫

Bruges has over 50 chocolate shops. But it also has the best beer in the world. Monks brew it, locals drink it, and visitors stumble home happy.

De Halve Maan:

The only brewery still operating in the city center. They built a 3km underground pipeline to pump beer out of the city so trucks wouldn't block traffic.
